2016 Shoot & Share Contest
It's our quiet moments that tell our story...
The week we welcomed Isla Pearl into the world, I’d also found out that one of my images had placed in the Top 20 of the Shoot & Share Contest. This is a yearly contest that allows photographers from all over the world to enter their best work from the year! The images are then judged anonymously in a contest that spans several weeks! This year there were over 225,000 photos entered into 25 different categories. I was so excited when I found out several of my images placed in the Top 10% of their respective categories. As the week went on, I was even more excited to see a few images make the Top 100! Then to much of my surprise…I had one of my FAVORITE images placed 11th out of 12,302 in the newborn category!
This image is such a beautiful reminder of how important it is to take time to find the beauty in the everyday. I was visiting one of my best friends in Chicago, when I asked if I could take a few pictures of her daughter , Chloe. While I don’t specialize in children photography, when it comes to my friends – – I absolutely love documenting these beautiful little people. It’s been amazing watching my friends become mother’s and my heart is always with them even when I can’t be. Choosing to document my friend’s children is a way I’m able to share my gift and express myself artistically. It forces me to slow down and be in the moment, to watch and wait for the quiet.
I loved this simple, organic and natural moment that I shared with Chloe while getting ready for the day’s adventure. I’m so thankful that so many of the voters also loved this moment as well!
